Under the breakout, Italy government drafted proposals for the lockdown of 12 regions, including the heavily populated Lombardy region with Milan as its capital, to prevent further spreading the virus.

On Mar 8 local time, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte formally ordered the complete lockdown, affecting some 16 million people in these regions.
