From Yuan 老师(laoshi)

My understanding in Chinese learning.

There are many compelling and interesting reasons to study Chinese: some people just enjoy studying foreign languages, some want to get a resume-builder as knowing Chinese may give you advantage for employment, some want to know Chinese culture, including  its long history and splendid traditions in literature, arts and cuisine. There is no denying that Chinese is the most widely spoken first language in the world. China is playing a major role in world affairs, no matter economy or politics.

How can I teach foreigners Chinese efficiently?

Learners’ backgrounds, requirements and proficiency levels are essential for customized course design as different individuals need different teaching methods and contents.

Usually, I make students start with a set of nouns that can be commonly used as subjects, then a set of nouns as objects, and finally a set of commonly used verbs. In this way, learners can quickly build a sentence in “subject –verb-object” pattern in a short time, giving them the sense of achievement and enhancing their confidence in learning Chinese. Besides, I focus on speaking, help my students command standard pronunciation and encourage them to speak out in my class. Learning practical languages, such as greeting, weather, numbers, time and other common social language are best ways to motivate learners to make progress on their Chinese skills.

Mandarin is becoming one of the most popular and most common used languages over the world. More and more people start to learn mandarin because of their need for work, their interest or the wide spread of Chinese culture.

As a Chinese teacher in KirinMandarin, I really enjoy teaching my students from different countries. I am happy to see many students with different background working hard to learn Chinese. Their improvement in Mandarin will bring them happiness and make use in their lives and work. Moreover, I am glad to share the Chinese culture with my students during teaching Mandarin. Learning is experiencing, knowing is learning.

From my prosperity, the most important thing in studying mandarin is to enjoy this journey in learning Mandarin and to apply what you have learnt into your life. Language is a tool but not only a tool. It makes you to know a culture and it provides a bridge for everyone to explore new things in your life. Hope you enjoy studying mandarin and enjoy exploring new world every day!

I use different ways to teach different students, some students are good at speaking skill, some students are good at learning Chinese characters.

For those students who are easier to learn speaking, I will teach them the way to speak Chinese in particular scene. For example, emergency situation; when you lost your way; meeting new friends… Thus, students able to remember the new words easily, and able to know how to use the correct grammar. When I teach students Chinese characters, I will teach students basic Chinese characters and Chinese radicals first. After that, I will teach them how to learn combined Chinese characters. That will be much easier for students.

For those students who are easier to learn Chinese characters, I will teach them the correct way to pronounce Chinese characters.  Let students able to use the correct tones for every Chinese characters. I will let students read the textbook with me.  Encourage them to use Chinese to speak to me. When students are learning Chinese characters, I will tell them every detail of Chinese characters. Prevent the careless mistake. Also, I will let them know the meaning behind every Chinese characters, so they can remember Chinese characters much easier.
