由于新冠病毒的疫情，此次大会将史无前例地在网上举行，大会长度也由以往的10天压缩到了两天。
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Assembly will be conducted in an unprecedented manner online for only two days instead of ten days.
台湾在此次疫情中对病毒的处理管控十分有效，尽管美国和澳大利亚等一些国家要求台湾以观察员身份参加此次大会，台湾并没有得到邀请。自从1949年中国内战结束以来，台湾和中国大陆的关系一直上上下下。台湾在2009至2016年间曾以观察员身份参加世界卫生组织大会，但在台湾现任总统蔡英文2016年当任后，台湾和北京的关系急转直下，台湾也停止出席世卫大会。
Despite some countries including the US and Australia has been pushing for Taiwan to attend the meeting as an observer to share its expertise in handling the virus, Taiwan did not receive the invitation. Taiwan and Mainland China have been having a long-lasting history after the civil war which ended in 1949. Taiwan previously held an observer seat from 2009 to 2016 but was removed after the election of current president Tsai Ing-wen in 2019 and their relationship went colder.

China would be open to an impartial investigation over the virus after the pandemic eases. ‘This work needs a scientific and professional attitude, and needs to be led by the WHO and the principles of objectivity and fairness need to be upheld’, said Chinese President Xi Jinping.
