Twitter and Facebook blocked 936 accounts which support Hong Kong police

Two of the biggest social platforms in the world, Facebook and Twitter, deleted 936 of their accounts yesterday (19th Aug) on the basis that these were ‘fake news’.

All of these accounts have shared posts regarding objections of protests in Hong Kong and supporting Hong Kong police. Twitter said in its official website that they have ‘reliable evidence’ that these posts are ‘state-backed’, with the intention to ‘undermine the legitimacy and political positions of protest movement’.

While on social platforms in China, many people are sharing that their accounts have also been deleted, even though their posts come from their heart.

Blocking speech on the basis of free speech, is this right?
