On Oct 2018 and Mar 2019, two separate Boeing 737 Max airplanes from different airlines crashed shortly after take-off. The two tragedies caused a total of 346 deaths including the passengers and pilot crews. Since then, Boeing 737 Max was indefinitely or temporarily banned by airlines from more than 20 countries. The ban has been 3 months till now.

A sub-committee of the House transportation committee has been investigating the two accidents. The investigation gained some new leads on Friday, the 9th. A published statement revealed that Boeing knew that there is a problem with the safety alarm system, the warning light when an angle-of-attack sensor is giving false readings was not working properly. However, Boeing has decided to wait until 2020 to fix the problem.

The Committee has required Boeing company to disclose relevant information such as when the company knew the light was defective and the persons who were involved.

Now, although Boeing has announced that a software update to the Max’s Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System is complete, the time for 737 Max to fly commercially again is not clear. Considering the fact that the company might intentionally hide the faulty system from the FAA, not only might the ban be continued, persons involved may also face legal consequences.
