几小时前，英国首相特蕾莎·梅（中国人亲切地称她为“梅姨”）发表了短短30秒的公告，宣布将于6月7日辞职。
Just a few years ago, Theresa May made a short 30 seconds statement, during which she has announced that she will quit as Conservative leader along with Prime Minister on 7th June.
看到这个新闻，我们首先想到的是她就任3年以来对英国脱欧协议做出的巨大努力。
Reading this news, the first thing that comes to our mind is the tremendous effort she made regarding Brexit during her 3 years as Prime Minister.
英国前首相卡梅伦早在2013年就提出了脱欧公投，随后在2016年，脱欧公投正式发起，全民投票。最后以52%的支持率，脱欧拉开帷幕。但是，大部分民众都缺少脱欧所带来后果的概念，这也导致了公投后的这三年，脱欧成了一场闹剧。
The UK-EU membership referendum was first proposed by last Prime Minister David Cameron, which officially took place in 2016. The referendum resulted in 52% of votes in favour of leaving the EU, and Brexit started from then. However, during the voting, most citizens only have the vaguest idea about the result of Brexit, which is why Brexit has been such a mess.
卡梅伦在公投通过后不久就宣布辞职，梅姨临危受命，紧急上任，开始了脱欧谈判，并在2018年11月达成了《英国脱欧草案》。该案虽然得到了欧盟27个成员国的一致通过，但是其本质问题重重，带有众多对英国不利的条款，最终在本国议会被否决了。
Mr. Cameron announced his resignation shortly after the referendum. Mrs. May took office under pressure and started Brexit negotiations. A draft Withdrawal Agreement was unanimously approved by the EU ON 25th November 2018. However, the draft contains many clauses which put the U.K. in a disadvantage, especially those regarding Ireland border and tax. Hence, the draft was rejected in Parliament.
不仅如此，梅姨还面对了两次党内和反对党的“弹劾”，连续被发起不信任投票。虽然梅姨保住了首相之位，但是她在工作上，不仅要面对一群不信任她的同事，还要处理脱欧方面的艰难谈判。尽管她是带着哭腔和不舍发表的辞职公告，但是这也应该是无奈之举吧。
Other than that, Mrs. May faces two no-confidence votings from her own party and the opposition party. Although Mrs. May won both and saved her seat, but facing so much trouble both in the British government and Brexit negotiations, her resignation seems so inevitable despite the sadness we heard in her resignation statement.
梅姨的继任者将会由12.5万名保守党党员投票，从最终的两位候选人选出。
Her predecessor will be voted from 1.25 million Conservative Party members and then be elected from two final candidates.
