Around mid-April, the Justice Department of America revealed the college admissions scandal that shocked the world. Top universities such as Yale and Stanford are also implicated in the scandal.

There is an especially astonishing ‘admission fee’ of $6.5 million which exceeds other bribes from US parents by a dozen times. This bribe came from the CEO of a pharmaceutical company based in Shandong province, Zhao Tao. Zhao Tao holds Singapore passport and was once the fifth-ranking billionaire of Singapore.

The purpose of the bribe was to make sure Zhao’s Daughter, Zhao Siyu will enter a top university in the US. The party being bribed, William Singer, rebranded Siyu as a talent in sailing and falsified her education certificate, even though there is no track record of any sailing background. After she was admitted, Singer donated $500,000 to the school’s sailing programme.
