心诚则灵,心诚则“零”?

如果你有一定中文基础(jīchǔ, foundation),你可能已经听过或用过“心诚则灵”这个成语了。
If you have some Chinese foundation, you probably have heard or used this idiom, “xinchengzeling”.
心(xīn) 心,心态。Heart, state of mind
诚(chéng)诚恳。sincere
则(zé)那么,然后。then
灵(líng)灵验。effective, works

总结一下,“心诚则灵”是指当你怀着诚恳(chéngkěn, sincere)的心态去做事,你的愿望(yuànwàng, wishes, hope)就会实现。
To sum up, “xinchengzeling” means that when you do something sincerely, you will be rewarded and you wish will come true.

不过,自2018年以来,网上经常会出现“心诚则零”这个词。那个“零”是错别字(cuòbiézì, characters which are written wrong or different)吗?
However, Since 2018, “xinchengzeLING” becomes a phrase frequented on the web. Is the “LING” a mistake?

不是!它是流传(liúchuán, spread)于一些减肥(jiǎnféi, lose weight)群体(qúntǐ, population)中的一个口号。
No! It is a slogan favoured by some people trying to lose weight.

“可乐的热量(rèliàng, amount of heat, energy content)高?那加些冰就会中和(zhōnghé, neutralize)掉了。”
“Coke has high calorie? Add some ice and you will burn more energy.”
“奶茶不健康(jiànkāng, healthy)?怎么可能!奶和茶都是生活的必需品(bìxūpǐn, necessities)。”
“Milk tea is not healthy? How could it be? Milk and tea are essentials of life.”
“冰激凌热量高?你又开玩笑了,它明明(míngmíng, clearly)是凉的。”
“Ice-cream is high in calorie? You are joking again, I already side coldness will burn calorie off.”
“所以,这些食物的卡路里都是零,我们可以随便吃吃吃,不会长胖的!”(卡路里和热量同样用来表达一种食物中的能量)
“Therefore, these all have zero calories, I can eat as I like without getting fat!”(Calorie and heat are both used to refer to energy in food)

作为一个曾经的减肥者,我非常理解(lǐjǐ, understand, sympathize)上述(shàngshù, above said)的“心诚则零”的心态。有时候在连续的节食运动和生活的高压(gāoyā, high pressure)下,我们需要一些“减肥天敌(tiāndí, natural enemy)”来慰藉(wèijiè, comfort)自己。
Lost some weight myself in the past, I totally understand why some people have the mind-set of “xinchengzeLING”. After a period of dieting and exercising and other pressures from life, we need some guilty pleasure to treat ourselves.

但是,任何一个有基本生活常识的人都可以明白上述想法是多么的不靠谱(bùkàopǔ, unreliable)。一次性的自欺欺人(zìqīqīrén, fool your own)是可以的,要是一直这样的话,就会不瘦反胖了。
However, anyone with some common knowledge can see why this mind-set is neither true or reliable. You can fool yourself one time, but if it keeps on, you might get fatter than when you started.

归根到底(guīgēndàodǐ, literally says to track down to the bottom, the root, means in the end),减肥不是“心诚则零”,而是“心诚则灵”啊!
At the end of the day, losing weight is not “xinchengzeLING”, but “xinchengzeling”!
