[Chinese Learning] When do you use 的 and 得?

Today I will be explaining the difference between 的 and 得, a common confusion amongst foreigners that are learning Mandarin Chinese!

Let’s break it down by using an example:
The word 讲 means ‘to say’ or ‘talk about’.
得, in this case, refers to how one is talking, while 的 is a possessive, referring to what you’re talking about. So you can use both forms in simple sentences to show their meaning.

“你讲话讲得太快” - ‘When you speak, you're speaking is too quickly!'

However,
“他讲的故事很有意思” - ‘The story he’s telling is very interesting’

You can also map the same use onto other words, though this is only a single use case of both 的 and 得.
