[Business Chinese]

前方线子来报(qiánfāng xiànzi láibào, a messenger has delivered news from the frontline. This is a funny way to say recently),英国的脱欧已经再次前进了一大步。

Recently, Brexit has made another significant progress.

Since a referendum outcome for Brexit since 29 Mar 2016, the “divorce settlement” between Britain and EU has been ongoing for more than a year. Finally, the draft deal was approved at the EU summit at Brussel yesterday.

To describe a matter is fixed)的事了。

The clock is ticking. If the “divorce settlement” can be approved by parliament, the official Brexit n 29 Mar 2019 will be close to a done deal. However, the situation does not look good, judging from what we have seen.

Most major parties have expressed their intention to vote against the deal at Parliament. Two ministers have already resigned to show firm protest at it.

很多人甚至希望重新举行一次公投来推翻(tuīfān, push to make sth fall over, means overturn)上一次投票结果。

Many UK citizens have organized protests against Brexit. Many are hoping for a new referendum to overthrow the result of the last one.

自欧盟1958年成立以来,28个成员国相依为命(xiāngyīwéimìng, putting lives in each other’s’ hands, depend on each other),早已成为了一个巨大的结合体。

Brexit will also lead to many problems involving economics, politics and society. Since the beginning of EU since 1958, 28 countries have been peas in a pod, going through ups and downs together. Many details need to be discussed in order to minimise the negative effect after Brexit.

由此可见,英国现在状况真的是处于内忧外患(nèiyōuwàihuàn, inside and outside both have problems)之中,希望12月的议会可以让它化险为夷(huàxiǎnwéiyí, turn danger to safety)吧!

Overall, UK is fighting tough battles inside and outside of the country. Let’s hope the parliament meeting will put a silver lining on this situation.
