Brexit(Update) – there is a risk to extend

Although
Britain was supposed to officially exit the European Union (EU) on 29th Mar 2019, which is next Friday, recent news has suggested that the Brexit may not go as planned.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has officially written to the EU to ask for a three-month extension to Brexit, which makes the new date 30th June.

延期脱欧需要欧盟的27个成员国的一致(yízhì – adj. unanimous)通过(tōngguò – v. to pass sth. to agree to sth.)。
An extension requires all 27 member states to unanimously agree.

The European Commission thinks that to ensure the functioning of the EU is not affected, the extended date should either be either before 23rd May or significantly later.

However, French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has expressed France’s intention to veto the extension if Britain cannot provide a reliable strategy. Britain would then facing a no-deal exit.

我们拭目以待(shìmùyǐdài – v. to wipe our eyes and wait, meaning to wait eagerly and ancxiously)吧!
Can the extension be passed or dismissed? Let’s wait and see.
