Carrie Lam announced the Bill as ‘dead’ and protesters stood firm on the five demands

4 am today (9th Jul), Hong Kong Leader Carrie Lam met with the press to update on the current situation of the extradition bill.

According to her, this work on the Bill had been a ‘total failure’ and the extradition bill is ‘dead’. She asked the public to allow the government and herself the opportunity and time to ‘take Hong Kong out of the current impasse and try to improve the current situation’.

However, some protesters are not content with her speech, reason number one being that describing the Bill as ‘dead’ is not a technical legal term.

They also expressed that the protests will go on if the Hong Kong government fails to meet their five demands.

The five demands include: full retraction of the Bill, an investigation into police brutality, release of arrested protesters, amendment of previous classification on the protest as ‘riot’, and a call for universal suffrage.
