For the whole world, especially New Zealand, 15th Mar 2019 was a dark day.
一场恐怖袭击(kǒngbù xíjī – n. terrorist attack)降临了两家回教堂,嫌凶(xiánxiōng – n. suspect in crimes involving death)大规模枪击回教徒,导致了49人死亡,48人受伤。
A terrorist attack fell upon two mosques where a suspect violently shot everyone at the mosques. 49 people have passed away while 48 have injured.
愿(yuàn – v. hope, wish)逝者(shìzhě – n. the passed, the dead)安息(ānxī – v. rest in peace),生者(shēngzhě – n. the living)坚强(jiānqiáng – v. be strong)。
May the dead rest in peace and the living be strong.
与此同时,在不到一周的时间里,整个新西兰从这场枪击案中引以为戒(yǐnyǐwéijiè – v. learn from an event with negative outcome),一直在积极采取措施预防重蹈覆辙(chóngdǎofùzhé – v. the same thing happens again)。
At the same time, in less than one week’s time, New Zealand has been learning from this shooting and positively taking actions to prevent the same thing happening again.
新西兰总理Jacinda Arden承诺要改革(gǎigé – v. reform, revolutionize)枪械法(qiāngxièfǎ – n. gun legislation),表示新西兰将禁止(jìnzhǐ – v. forbid)售卖所有军用半自动枪械,改革预计将从4月11日起开始。
New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Arden promises to modify the legislation on guys. The new legislation, where New Zealand will ban on all military-style semi-automatics, is expected to be in place by 11th April.
枪支回购计划(huígòujìhuà – n. buyback scheme)也将展开。很多新西兰公民已经自愿上缴武器。
A gun buyback scheme will also be announced. Many New Zealanders have voluntarily surrendered their firearms.
新西兰还将会对情报收集工作展开调查(zhǎnkāi diàochá – v. open/conduct an investigation),其中将涉及到警方、海关、移民局以及政府的两个情报部门。这是为了确保政府能在恐怖袭击之前获取足够情报并采取相应措施。
New Zealand will also conduct an investigation regarding the intelligence-gathering process, which involves the police, custom, immigration, and two government-owned intelligence departments. This measure is to ensure that the government will be able to gather enough intelligence before any potential attacks and act accordingly.
