Just about two weeks ago, both China and the US expressed their confidence towards the trade-deal negotiations. Who would have thought that the situations changed so dramatically now?
星期天5月5号，美国总统特朗普发推文，指控中方试图重新协商。因此他准备从10号起，对价值2000亿美元的中国商品进行关税上调，从10%到25%。
US President Donald Trump sent out a tweet on 5th May. He accused China of trying to renegotiate. Hence, he planned to raise tariffs from 10% to 25% on $200 billion worth of Chinese commodities since the 10th of May.
在特朗普投下这颗炸弹后，金融市场出现了大幅度的负面波动，各地股市收盘时都出现了众多跌停股。多方都在猜测中国代表团会不会考虑取消原定于8日、在华盛顿举行的谈判。
Finance market reacted negatively after Mr. Trump dumped this huge bomb. Many stock markets dropped dramatically upon closing. Many were assuming that Chinese delegation may not attend the next round of negotiations scheduled at Washington on 8th May.
不过很快，中方就表示仍会出席谈判，并希望能采取积极有效的方式处理争端。 但是在中国副总理刘鹤赴美谈判前夕，中国商业部在8日深夜表示，如果美国实施关税上调，中国将“不得不采取必要的反制措施”。
However, China quickly replied that the negotiation is still on and they wish to solve this conflict with effective measures. Even though just one day prior to Vice Prime Minister Liu He made his trip to the US, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a statement that China will have to adopt counter-measures if the US raise the tariffs.
9日，中美进行了第一天谈判。特朗普表示收到了中国国家主席习近平的一封“漂亮的信”，并对达成协议充满信心，但他同时也开始着手加征关税。因此，股市仍然呈现下跌趋势。
China and the US proceeded with the first day of negotiation on 9th May. Mr. Trump said that he received a nice letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed his confidence in reaching a deal after all the drama. He is still proceeding with raising the tariffs at the same time. Hence, the stock market still shows signs of declining.
