During his peak of power, Putin’s role changed from the appointed prime minister (1999) to the elected president (2000-2008) to the prime minister (2008-2012) and then back to the presidency (2012). From 2008 to 2012, Putin revised the constitution and extended the president's term of office from four years to six years. No one is in Russia for longer than this, including Stalin. Putin has convinced the Russian people that he is indispensable and irreplaceable.
