WHO approve Sinovac vaccine for emergency use

Chinese-produced Sinovac shot is approved for emergency use, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in an statement on Tuesday (June 1).

In its vaccine efficacy research shows that the vaccine prevented symptomatic disease in 51 percent of those vaccinated and prevented severe Covid-19 and hospitalisation in 100 per cent of the studied population.

Singapore residents will be able to use Sinovac vaccine soon. “A licensed healthcare institution can apply to MOH to draw on our existing stock of 200,000 doses to administer to those who wish to have it”, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said.

This means that Singapore residents who wish to administer Sinovac vaccine need to pay to get it at a private clinic.

Even though many Chinese in Singapore has been expecting Sinovac vaccine, how many are willing to pay, while how many choose to get those that can be administered for free?
