Mandarin Creative Writing and Reading
Writing and reading has always been a challenge to either local or international students in Singapore, leading to the loss of interest and confidence in learning Mandarin.
We would adopt an engaging, progressive method of teaching, allowing students to learn, through playing and appreciate writing and reading and in turn, gradually building interest.
Teachers will lead students in drafting an essay and through suggestions, guide students to fill into the draft with suitable words and phrases from their vocabularies, helping students acquire the right writing logic.
In terms of reading, essays that has been summarized and categorized by teachers will be handed out to the students and guide them in the discovery to reading techniques.
At the end of every lesson, a simple, practical and fun oratorical practice will be done to wrap up the training of the day where students will be left with a pleasant experience.
Drama Performance and Story Telling
The essential objective learning a language is proper application. Performance courses not only provide students with a platform to apply the language they learn, they also enhance the creativity of students in the effort of achieving mastery.
Utilizing both the course curriculum and daily life situations of students, teachers will select suitable and meaningful stories as scripts and guide students to learn and memories the morals and beautiful phrases of each story.
Based on the story and characters of the stories, the teachers will assign students into small groups where under the supervision of the teachers, they will prepare the props, conduct discussions, practise and finally present the final performance.
At the end of every lesson, there will be recognitions for “Best Performance”, “Best Language” and “Best Plot” and the winning groups will be presented the prizes in the beginning of the next lesson to raise the interest of students.
Chinese Idiom Stories Comics Drawing
Language is a representation of culture, therefore, in order to master a language, one must first understand its culture. Chinese Idioms and Moral Stories is the essence of the Chinese culture and pictorial presentations in simple comical form is also an indispensable element of modern education.
Teachers will draw a simple comic based on an idiom or moral stories within 10 minutes and guide students to name the title or the story. With the guidance of the picture, students will be introduced to the origin and moral of the idiom and stories. Students will retell the stories for further learning.
Lastly, teachers will guide the students to learn the drawing while telling the stories and also list out keywords for memorizing. Quiz will be given to students at the beginning and end of the lessons to monitor the learning progress of students as well.
